What is Home Care / Elder Care?

Home care is generally available for our'most' senior citizens,to offer supports required so they may stay in their homes and enjoy their community for as long as possible. Home care for the elderly offers supports in many areas of need so the client may maintain their independence.

Home care or Eldercare is available to family members, spouses or friends who have taken on the role as “primary caregiver” for a loved one.

Due to the commitment made, from time to time 'primary caregivers' need to have an opportunity to take some 'personal time'. Home Care/Elder care offers this opportunity by having an Elder Care or Home care worker come to the home and do some of the many things that need to be done in a day to support the 'primary caregiver' so they can reconnect with who they are as a person.

Some of the services offered by home care/elder care workers may include but are not limited to:

Elder care/home care workers may have training and certification. This is usual for home care workers affiliated with agencies who offer training opportunities to build the skills needed for workers to support clients in specialized fields.

Independent home care workers can access training programs and may have some credentials, experience and a willingness to continue their training to develop skills needed to support their clients. Some independent home care workers may also be continuing their education at local colleges. It is recommended that educational credentials are checked and verified.

There are many advantages to have home care or elder care workers in the home to support the client and their family. This may provide emotional support and relief for the family and primary caregiver. There may be financial assistance available for this service through your provincial government.

Once a decision has been made to have support and assistance for your loved one there are steps to take to make your search successful.CARE FINDER
