What are Preschool Programs?

Preschool programs are beneficial to children in their early years and can contribute to their development and assist in laying the foundation for ongoing learning experiences. There are many different philosophies and preschool programs available to parents. It is important to know the type of preschool programs available; determine the type that best suits your child’s developmental needs and start your preschool search in advance. In some large cities, parents start their search for preschool care when their child is born.

It is a parental decision to determine if your child is ready for a preschool program and which preschool program will enhance your child’s learning.

There is much riding on your choice of preschool programs…Every parent wants their child to have a fun time while learning so a little preparation and research is a good investment. There are steps parents can take making the search for a preschool program less stressful and more meaningful for parents and children.

Preschool programs are labeled in many different ways, no matter what the label; preschool programs are enriched learning programs preparing children with many skills required for school readiness. They are not intended to be used for full time child care purposes and do differ from daycare. These preschool programs often require parental involvement through volunteer activities such as: board participation; classroom assistance; field trip coordination or snack preparation.

Preschool programs offer advantages to each child. It is a parental decision to determine if the advantages of a preschool program will enhance learning for their child.

Each province has standards for licensing and how to operate a preschool program. The standards represented by the provincial body are a minimum measurement for the program. It is important for each parent to feel comfortable with the preschool environment, the director, the program and the staff before making any decisions. Using all resources available will make a parent’s decision a sound one. The ultimate goal is to have a long standing partnership reflective of your child’s learning style, supporting their developmental needs.

To locate a preschool please feel free to contact the local authority for a listing of preschool programs or search
